"Do You Need a Photography Degree to Be a Successful Photographer?"

The one question that i have wondered myself as i pursue a bachelor's degree in photography. Also, it's not encouraging to read that the author of the article states, "my best advice is to never major in photography (a minor is fine.)" I think in today's business the person with the best portfolio is going to get the job even if the other person has the degree.

We all learn photography from somewhere, whether it's sitting in a classroom or learning by working along side a professional. In a classroom, you can learn the style of many photographers to create and mold your own style. If you were to work along side just one person, your style could become very similar to theirs. I think an education in photography is very valuable and it's why I'm still here after almost 5 years. so yes you can be successful without a degree in photography, but i think you will get higher in the business faster if you have an education.

"Photography Can Be Like Fashion, Or It Can Be a Lifelong Linear Process"

It talks about how we should spend more time creating and not just documenting. As I begin to form my own style i lean more towards a documentary approach. Posts like this is always challenging to me to step out of my comfort zone, like Vaughn has told me so many times to do.
